The originator of the colour change humidity indicator card, Clariant Cargo & Device Protection leads the industry with a wide array of Humitector™ humidity indicators. Following the most rigorous quality standards, including strict colour meter testing, Clariant's humidity indicator cards and humidity indicator plugs are designed to meet standards set forth by military agencies and electronic/semiconductor companies, such as Mil-Spec and JEDEC respectively.
Further, Clariant offers Maximum humidity indicator cards to the logistics industry, as well as humidity indicators for preservation and commercial applications. Selection includes:
Cobalt-Dichloride Free Humidity Indicator Cards
Cobalt Free Humidity Indicator Cards
Desiccator Plugs & Humidity Indicators
Humitector™ Humidity Indicator Cards
Purpose: With the widest selection of humidity indicator (HI) cards for various industry applications, Humitector™ HI Cards provide simple, reliable, visual indication of the relative humidity within a sealed package or sealed environment.
What are they Humitector™ Humidity Indicator Cards are small, paper instruments designed to monitor relative humidity levels. Available in numerous configurations, Humitector™ cards indicate relative humidities as low as 5 per cent and as high as 95 per cent, depending on the application and need. There are two main types of humidity indicator cards reversible and irreversible. Reversible humidity indicator cards work much like a thermometer, fluctuating to indicate the current relative humidity level. Maximum, or irreversible, cards are designed to indicate the highest relative humidity level to which goods have been exposed.
Why use them: High relative humidity levels can cause irreparable damage to sensitive equipment, supplies, products and cargo.
Cobalt Dichloride Free Humidity Indicator Cards are free of Cobalt-Dichloride (CoCl2), a chemical which has classification and labelling requirements under the European Chemical Agency (ECHA) REACH directives
Fully compliant with JEDEC standard J-STD-033 for colour-change accuracy
Meets all relevant ECB/REACH labelling requirements
Typical applications include the dry packaging of semiconductor and electronic devices
Cobalt Free Humidity Indicator Cards:
Cobalt Free Humidity Indicator Cards are free of Cobalt, a chemical which has classification and labelling requirements under the European Chemical Agency (ECHA) REACH directives
Meets all relevant ECB/REACH labelling requirements
Typical applications include the dry packaging of semiconductor and electronic devices
Most configurations offer less than 900 ppm Halogen levels
Desiccator Plugs & Humidity Indicators:
Humidity levels can be checked without exposing goods to external elements
Humidity indicator and desiccator plugs are available in a variety of sizes and configurations, detecting anywhere from 5 to 95 per cent relative humidity
Typical Applications include Military, Radar and Night Vision Instrumentation, Aerospace, Metals, Transportation
Humitector™ Humidity Indicator Cards:
Humitector™ Humidity Indicator (HI) Cards indicate when products have reached certain relative humidity levels
Clariant offers a full range of HI cards to comply with various industry and international regulatory standards
Typical applications include the dry packing of semiconductor, electronic devices, also known as surface mount device (SMD), and military equipment

Humitector™ Type 2 Humidity Indicator Card, used together with a Desi Pak desiccant, can help provide a complete history of a dry pack environment for moisture sensitive surface mount devices (SMD''''s) (MSD - moisture sensitive device). It complies with IPC / JEDEC standard, J-STD-033D. Humitector™ Type 2 is low halogen and cobalt dichloride free.
Benefits:
60% non-reversible indicator spot provides a clear permanent visual signal that moisture sensitive surface mount devices have been exposed to humidity for a prolonged period of time
Complies with the latest revision of the Joint Electron Device Engineering Council IPC/JEDEC standard, J-STD-O33D
Low-halogen and Cobalt dichloride free, a chemical regulated under European Chemical Bureau (ECB) REACH directives
Meet or exceed applicable ECB regulations
Easy to use with typical applications of dry packing (humidity indicator card, desiccant, moisture barrier bag, moisture sensitive label) of moisture sensitive surface mount devices - MSDs, SMDs
JEDEC - Humidity Indicator Cards: The Humitector™ Type 2 non-reversible humidity indicator card (HIC) provides verifiable colour-change accuracy, as required by the Joint Electron Device Engineering Council IPC/JEDEC standard J-STD-033D, Handling, Packing, Shipping and Use of Moisture/Reflow and/or Process Sensitive Devices. Humitector™ Type 2 non-reversible humidity indicator cards are low-halogen, free of cobalt dichloride, and meet or exceed applicable European Chemical Bureau (ECB) regulations.
Dry Packing: To control damaging moisture and ensure that reflowable components and subassemblies can be safely and reliably assembled, the J-STD-033D standard specifies that devices be "dry packed" or "dry pack" for storage or shipment. Typically, dry packing consists of the surface mount device (SMD) packages in their protective packaging: tube (sticks, magazines), tape and reel, or tray, a humidity indicator card, desiccant, moisture barrier bag, and a moisture-sensitive label.
Examples of SMD packages and technologies include:
ball grid arrays (BGAs)
capacitors and resistors
light-emitting diodes (LEDs)
plastic leaded chip carriers (PLCCs)
quad flat packs (QFPs)
small outline integrated circuits (SOICs)
transistors and diodes
When used in these dry pack configurations, the Humitector™ Type 2 non-reversible humidity indicator card can help provide complete proof of dry pack integrity, an assurance that moisture sensitive contents have not been exposed to high humidity for a prolonged period at any time during packaging, storage or transport. Conversely, if package contents are exposed to high levels of relative humidity, the blue colour contained in the non-reversible, 60% indicator provides a clear and permanent visual signal, spreading outside of the black indicator circle that surrounds it.
Traditional Vs. Type 2 Humidity Indicator: Thanks to its non-reversible indicator, the Humitector™ Type 2 card helps provides a complete history of the dry pack environment. Conventional humidity indicator cards, with only reversible indicators, reflect only current (dry or humid) conditions. If products are exposed to damaging humidity for a prolonged period but are returned to a dry environment before the card is checked, such damage could go undetected.
Further, per section 3.3.2.3 of J-STD-033D (April 2018), HI cards cannot be re-used in dry packing if the 60% spot indicates it has surpassed the threshold. With the Humitector™ Type 2 cards non-reversible 60% indicator, one can easily see if the threshold has been surpassed by the permanent colored spot migration beyond its black circle.
